Living in Lux

IMG_3729.jpg

We were lucky enough to have the amazing opportunity to live in Luxembourg, Luxembourg from July to September 2018. It might sound crazy, but they might have been the happiest and most exhilarating 3 months of our lives so far. I mean…disrupting daily life in the US for 3 months living in Europe with weekend getaways to the most beautiful countries…you can’t go wrong.

When we went: July-September

Where we lived: Le Royal Hotel (yes, living in a hotel for 3 months!)

Here are our recommendations when visiting this beautiful place!

#1: Chemin de la Corniche

Our first stop when arriving in Lux was to the “most beautiful balcony in Europe”. If you love Disney as much as we do, you really will feel like you’ve stepped into a small provincial town from Beauty and the Beast as you look out over the Grund from this beautiful balcony.

#2: Grund

Wow! Our favorite part of Luxembourg was exploring the adorable Grund neighborhood along a river and under the main bridges of the city. We stumbled upon the best nightlife (American Karaoke in Lux is on point) and amazing food and gin and tonics. We made the mistake of taking the long winding path from the city wall down to the Grund, but there is a very easy elevator by the Notre Dame Cathedral…so definitely find it!

#3 City Center & Bank Museum

We loved living in the city center area in Lux! Cobblestone paths wind through the main part of the city to the town square that has every type of restaurant you would want…including a gourmet Pizza Hut! The shops are a bit overpriced (aka all designer)…Lux is the wealthiest country in the world by GDP and it lives up to that!

Did you know Luxembourg is the last Grand Duchy? The Duke’s palace is just around the corner from the main square in the City Center. Keep going towards the Gare and Golden Lady and you will be treated with the gorgeous view of the Bank Museum and beautiful bridge that connects the city. Sigh, we miss that front yard.

#4 Clausen

We made the mistake of not making it to Clausen until our last 2 weeks in Lux. What an adorable part of town! While it has multiple large corporate offices for companies like Amazon and Microsoft, it also has bars, restaurants, shops, and the cutest cobblestone streets along a river and (of course) more adorable historic walls and bridges.

#5 Our Favorite Bars & Restaurants

  • Urban in the City Center- stand outside on the cobblestone streets as you have delicious cocktails and a break from French food.

  • Chimi Churri - Kelsey’s favorite place for lunch in Kirchberg (the area where many company offices are located)

  • Le Square in the City Center

  • Notaro in Clausen area for delicious Italian

  • Chi-Chi’s if you are craving Tex-Mex

  • Hitch- bar/ nightclub/ restaurant if you are looking for a late night out

  • Schueberfouer! In the summer don’t miss the summer festival in Luxembourg filled with fair food, games, drinks, and rides.
